CAPREEF – CASE STUDY

In 2004 a new zoning plan for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park was introduced along with a new Coral Reef Fin Fish Plan. This resulted in significant management changes and CapReef was set up to provide information on the effects of those changes in Central Queensland.

From 2004-2008 Infofish collected data on recreational catch and effort through boat ramp surveys, fish movement and growth through tagging, fish behaviour and stock differences in fished and unfished zones through baited remote underwater video, expenditure on fishing through an expenditure survey. These data were used to provide information to the community on the effects of the management changes on recreational fishing. A series of reports on CapReef are available from Infofish Australia.
